Report

A user reported that on the first start of the viewer the top bar was missing entirely. Restarting the viewer fixed it; it has not come back since.

Details not yet known: OS / version, whether "top bar" means the menu bar (World / Build / ... and the status area), the navigation bar (location / favourites), or both, and whether it was a fresh install or an upgrade (first run of a new version).

Suspects (first-run only, gone after a restart)

  • First-run defaults vs saved layout: a setting written during the first session (UI scale / HiDPI / window size, toolbar layout toolbars.xml, navbar / menu visibility settings such as ShowNavbarNavigationPanel / ShowMenuBarLocation, chat bar hide state) that the first session reads before it exists.
  • The window's first size / scale being settled after the UI tree was laid out (first-run window placement, or a monitor-scale change after the first frame), pushing the bar off the top or giving it zero height until the next layout from saved settings.
  • A floater/panel built before skin or font init completed on a cold cache (first start also compiles every shader and fills caches, so timing differs).
  • Interaction with the "hide UI" state (related area: #1017, the chat bar sinking below the screen border when the interface is hidden).

To do

  • Ask the reporter (via Help > Report Bug on the next occurrence) for the first-session log; reproduce with a clean user-settings directory (fresh install) on Windows and Linux at UI scale 1.0 and > 1.0 and different monitor scales.
  • Log the menu bar / nav bar rects and visibility at the end of startup so a report shows it.
