Reported on Linux Mint: in nearby chat, Shift+Enter neither whispers (the default) nor inserts a line break with ChatShiftEnterNewline enabled. Neither behaviour works. It's not yet confirmed whether it reproduces on other distros, X11 vs Wayland, or Windows.

Expected

  • ChatShiftEnterNewline off: Shift+Enter sends the line as a whisper.
  • ChatShiftEnterNewline on: Shift+Enter inserts a line break (IMs always do).

Suspects

  • SDL3 key handling: the Shift modifier may not reach the chat line editor with Enter. On some keyboard layouts or IMEs (ibus/fcitx, common on Mint), Shift+Return arrives as a text-input or keypad event, or the modifier is dropped.
  • Wrong handler: the chat bar may consume Return before checking the modifier.
  • Compare against #203 (Shift+= gesture), another Shift-combination key bug through SDL.

To gather

  • Mint version, desktop (Cinnamon / MATE / Xfce), X11 or Wayland, keyboard layout and input method.
  • Slipstream.log with key logging around a Shift+Enter press.

Thanks for the report! Could you test this again on the current release, installed from the .deb or the Flatpak, rather than the tarball? Shift+Enter in nearby chat should insert a new line when Preferences → Text Chat → "Shift+Enter inserts a new line" (ChatShiftEnterNewline) is on, and whisper when it's off. Please tell us which package you used and which desktop (Cinnamon/MATE/Xfce, X11 or Wayland). Downloads: https://slipstreamviewer.org
