Explore Intel XeSS (2.x) as a cross-vendor ML temporal AA / upscaler: XeSS Native AA plus the upscaling tiers. It runs on Intel Arc using XMX, and on NVIDIA/AMD through the DP4a path.

Why

DLSS/DLAA only covers NVIDIA RTX. XeSS gives AMD and Intel users an ML-based alternative to TAA / FSR Native AA, with typically better shimmer and ghosting behaviour than hand-tuned TAA. Owner direction: TAA's anti-aliasing is good but its shimmer is hard to manage, and FSR has its own problems.

Questions

  1. Quality and cost on non-Intel GPUs (DP4a path) compared with our TAA and FSR 3.1 Native AA: ms at 1440p, shimmer on foliage / fences / specular, ghosting behind avatars. A/B in the same scenes.
  2. Vulkan support and Linux: the XeSS SDK's Vulkan backend status, and whether a Linux build is available.
  3. Licence: the XeSS SDK licence terms for redistribution with an LGPL viewer (it's reported to be more permissive than DLSS); bundling on all platforms and packages.
  4. Integration: reuse the FSR / DLSS plumbing — jitter, motion vectors, depth, exposure, reactive mask, render-scale tiers. Ideally one upscaler abstraction drives FSR / DLSS / XeSS.

Deliverable

A measured recommendation (go / no-go, default per vendor) and, if go, an implementation ticket.
