Measured with Prefer disk cache on: reusable copies drained (253 -> 31 MB) but ~990 MB stayed:
Never driven: the samples are a region's 4 terrain detail textures (2048x1024 / 2048x2048, no faces, not boosted, held ~55 min). LL decodes them at 2048^2 for the minimap terrain composite and then unboosts them; they are never GPU images under Vulkan. The idle-thumbnail path skipped every texture with no faces (to protect undrawn UI images), so they stayed whole for the session.
Next: a log breakdown of the boosted bucket by boost type (bakes / UI / sculpt / map / selected / other) to size the work in the lease ticket.
Shipped in 1.3.0 Beta 7: idle textures with no faces (terrain detail textures) no longer keep a full-size copy in RAM. The boosted copies were handled by #707.
