Optionally auto-hide the top bars (the menu bar and the navigation/favourites bars) when they are not in use. The 3D view gets the full window, and the bars slide down over it when the mouse reaches the top edge.

Behaviour

  • A setting (Preferences > Interface or View, plus a View menu item) to auto-hide the top bars. Off by default.
  • While hidden: the bars are fully off screen, apart from a thin hover zone of a few pixels at the top edge.
  • Showing: moving the mouse into the zone slides the bars down, with a short delay to avoid accidental triggers and a short animation. They overlay the 3D view; the view is not resized, so the camera and the image do not jump.
  • Stays shown while in use: while the mouse is over the bars, a menu is open, the search field has focus, or a dropdown from the bars is open. Hide again after a short delay once none of these hold.
  • Keyboard access still works: Alt / F10 menu activation and menu keyboard shortcuts show the bars while they are being used.
  • Mouselook and hidden-UI modes are unaffected. Fullscreen (#919) works the same way.

Interaction with #918 (world viewport sized to the area the bars leave visible)

  • With auto-hide on, the bars no longer permanently cover the top of the view, so the world must be rendered for the full window: #918's reduced viewport is off while auto-hide is enabled.
  • While the bars are pulled down they overlay a fully rendered frame. Do not resize the viewport when they show or hide; that would reset history (TAA/FSR) and move the image every time the mouse touches the top edge.
  • #918 should read one "opaque top inset" value from the UI. Auto-hide sets that value to 0. Whichever lands second must respect the other.

Verify

  • Toggle the setting: the view uses the full window, and #918's reduced viewport turns off.
  • Mouse to the top edge: the bars slide down without a frame hitch or image shift, and hide again after leaving.
  • Menus, search, the navigation bar and favourites all stay usable; keyboard menu access shows the bars.
  • Works windowed and fullscreen, at different UI scales.
