  • Show typing indicators for IMs in the conversation list
  • Add by-opening-order option for sorting conversations to chat menu and preferences
  • Add an option to hide the players listed beneath Nearby Chat
  • Add existing setting for compact chat headers in Preferences
  • Make "Only ping when the conversation isn't focused" suppress flashing for visible conversations
  • Rename Preferences Chat's IM to Chat Windows and re-organize settings across General, Chat Bar and Chat Windows

The major layout changes are currently disabled by default, and preserve current behaviour. Should we keep the current defaults long-term, or move towards more Firestorm-like defaults?

Built & tested on Windows

Keep upstream's Nearby Chat placement and unnamed-object options in Chat Windows. Opening-order sorting follows the Nearby Chat placement setting. Make Chat Windows scroll so all controls remain accessible.

Merged into main as fbab230b11. It conflicted with #501 (both added settings at the top of settings.xml), so the merge was resolved by hand, keeping both. Forgejo can't mark it merged after the fact, so I'm closing it here. Thank you! On the defaults question: we're keeping the current defaults, and the new options stay opt-in.
