The new release candidate for Slipstream's first full release. Please report anything that looks wrong.
Highlights
- Much lower memory use while loading. A new memory governor watches free system memory and paces texture and mesh decoding so other programs aren't pushed into swap; on 8/16 GB machines loading slows down instead of using everything.
- A full graphics card is handled quietly. Over-sized, off-screen and far-away textures give up detail first, then the rest; ray-traced shadows are only reduced after that. Messages only appear when something you'd notice changes, and the old "memory is nearly full" alerts are gone.
- Sharper textures. Texture detail now follows how textures are actually laid out on each surface, so prim text, game boards and small mesh objects stay sharp at normal distance.
- Run several viewers at once, on by default: each instance keeps its own log and no longer overwrites your preferences or window position.
- FSR 3.1 is the only upscaler; your existing choice migrates automatically.
- Right-click and select work on all mesh objects (some went straight through to what was behind).
- Graphics driver crashes (device lost) now show a clear message with Restart / Quit and offer safer settings next launch.
- Debian / Ubuntu / Mint .deb package; the Linux window always has a title bar on GNOME Wayland (bundled libdecor) and a Display backend choice (Auto / Wayland / X11).
- Ultra level on the mesh detail sliders; occlusion culling on by default.
- RLVa: @setsphere vision effects and @setoverlay work again; new opt-in @logout (Advanced > RLVa).
Changes since v1.0.0-beta.5.
New features
- RLVa: add opt-in @logout=force (#283) (
71ceaca5df)
Other changes
- #283: @logout frees the mouse for Cancel; RLVaForceLogoutCountdown toggles the 5 s warning (
de4a4eea6a) - #284: RLVa @setsphere on Vulkan + @setoverlay draws again (
cb9a6befab) - RLVa: @logout Cancel doesn't depend on the notification id field (
98395b74df) - #282: one texture-step owner -- budget fit is demand-sorted too, global bias last (
b06ffa3884) - #282 phase 1: VRAM pressure ladder -- texture pool absorbs pressure first, silently (
a00c21e0b1) - Texture demand: per-slot UV density (texture-streaming texel factor) instead of bounds / UV span (
158845ecbf) - Texture demand: honour UV repeats and raw UV range; stop starving the VK->LL demand refresh (
34bc41cb0a) - #276: pick and rect-select the geometry the renderer draws, not LL's live LOD (
0ddcebb7a9) - Upscaling: FSR 3.1 is the only user-facing upscaler (RenderVKUpscaler) (
d3964da267) - Prefs: grey out Antialiasing while an upscaler is active; LLControlVariable::type() const (
d32ee89e11) - Prefs: grey out Antialiasing Quality unless FXAA/SMAA actually runs (TAA ignores it) (
dcfb69c515) - Multiple viewers: first-class second/third instances, AllowMultipleViewers on by default (
00b3a4a23b) - #281: Ultra level for the mesh detail sliders (
f14d2010d8) - RAM #262: retained-copy allowance up to 4 GB on 64 GB+ machines (
d18a2f978f) - RAM #262: govern mesh decodes; scale mesh/staging caches by RAM; HTTP body gauge (
8df8deb3ff) - RAM #262: trim retained CPU texture copies without the comfort delays under pressure (
0e64a5c9c1) - RAM #262: govern texture decodes; never decode sharper than desired (
0dc2636e14) - Preferences: drop the stale 'multiple viewers not supported / cache corruption' alert (
2db72474eb) - RAM #262: drive the memory governor; RSS timeline after login / teleport (
d3a326c205) - VRAM (#226): pre-check setting-driven allocations, step down + notify instead of OOM-abort (
d5771e31d3) - RAM #262: LLMemoryGovernor -- system-memory-paced byte budget for heavy work (
fa32bd2409) - llsdl: keep the test-loaded bundled libdecor plugin loaded (#197) (
407cef8d64) - Preferences: Display backend (Auto / Wayland / X11) on Linux (#197) (
fc6f1d2e48) - Launcher: point libdecor at the bundled plugin when the system has none; --x11/--wayland (#197) (
77b7a1478e) - Linux: pick Wayland only when the window gets a frame; log the choice (#196/#197) (
c4da5dcc65) - Linux package: ship libdecor + cairo plugin in lib/libdecor (#196/#197) (
fddf09d435) - README-linux: Debian/Ubuntu/Mint .deb install section (#278) (
80c1fef4ae) - release CI: deb-package job attaches the .deb to each release (#278) (
c15fc04298) - Debian/Ubuntu/Mint .deb packaging: scripts/packaging/deb (#278) (
ca7eb505e2) - #135 VK: fault / checkpoint queries only on a driver-confirmed device loss (
3886456ef7) - #135 research: design for in-process device-lost recovery (part B, not implemented) (
b6fc6f4970) - #135 Device lost: report block, message box, clean exit, restart, next-launch notice (
b64c0028e4) - #135 VK: one device-lost state, detection at every surfacing point, no abort (
490b21a805) - Occl2 seed: transition a never-built Hi-Z to GENERAL before the dispatch (
ecde92524d) - Two-phase occlusion on by default; camera-cut frames skip it and reseed (
cf18746620)
